Netflix Is A JokeFest
Brand Package
As a HUGE stand-up comedy fan, I was beyond excited when Netflix announced they were collaborating with 75+ artists to create the first ever stand-up festival, Netflix is a JokeFest. Unfortunately, with the outbreak of COVID-19, life as we know it, including all live entertainment, has been canceled until further notice. So until then, I wanted to create a brand package for Netflix that showcased the festival's many comedians and venues in an upbeat, LA style.
Inspiration for this project came from the comedians themselves; re-watching clips of them doing their thing, I realized there were aspects of their personality I could not capture with graphics. What makes going to a stand-up show so special is witnessing unique moments in the comedians performance live. Even though a comedian could be touring the country with the same skits, his performance with you is exclusive and custom made. I determined that giving the animation a textile, handmade quality would not only allow me to feature some recorded performances, but also graphically exhibit the nature of stand-up.

With a little time remapping and masking, I was able to record key moments of featured comedians and cut out poses of them that I thought best summed up their comedy style. The rock music played a major part in the timing of the animation and affirming the mood. No comedian is featured twice as it is pretty fast paced to advertise as many artists as possible.

As part of the brand package, I have provided more than one ratio for use on Instagram and other social platforms.
Type Treatment
One of my favorite elements in the project is the typography and how it perfectly relates to the grunge, textile theme.
Each letter was animated separately with a wiggle expression and given a starting color, then given a time remap expression to appear as if each letter was hand placed in random positions and sizes. Right on note, they come together to reveal "Live from LA".
A more subtle wiggle expression was placed on longer text and the titles. Still to give the appearance of hand-made, a duplicate text was placed in a different color underneath with the same expression. This gives emphasis to the text and creates dynamic rest.
